Diversification of the global solar supply chain and EU-India cooperation in the area of manufacturing

The EU and India have been working closely together to speed up the deployment of renewable energy, promote energy efficiency, collaborate on smart grid and storage technology, and modernise the electricity market under the framework of Clean Energy and Climate Partnership. India is a key strategic partner for the European Union and both share a deep commitment to ensure transition towards a green future.
 
European Commissioner for Energy Ms. Kadri Simson on a two-day visit to India and Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Chemicals and Fertilizers Mr. Bhagwanth Khuba inaugurated the event on ‘Solar Energy - Diversification of the global supply chain and EU-India cooperation in the area of manufacturing’ on 7th September. The event was scheduled from 14:00 PM onwards at the Leela Palace Hotel, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. During her inaugural speech , Commissioner Simson, highlighted the need for a secure and diversified supply chain by strengthening PV manufacturing capacities in different regions of the world. She emphasised the role of open, competitive and rule-based market solutions for both solar energy equipment and solar energy deployment.
 
The event was organized jointly by the European Union and the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India, in close cooperation with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and SolarPower Europe, also featured a strong participation from the European and Indian business community. Participants included: International Energy Agency, SolarPower Europe, European Investment Bank, Enel Green Power SpA, REC, International Solar Alliance, CII, National Solar Energy Federation of India, India First Solar, Apraava Energy, Engie India, Tata Power Solar, Adani Transmission Ltd, ReNew Power, Jackson Group, RIS, Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency and Fortum India Pvt Ltd amongst others.
