The Indian Smart Grid Forum (ISGF) has been organizing its flagship annual event, India Smart Utility Week (ISUW) since 2015. ISUW 2023, the ninth edition of the flagship event was organized as an international conference and the exhibition was scheduled from 28th February – 04th March 2023 in Hotel Lalit, New Delhi. The ISUW 2023 event hosted tutorials, plenaries, bi-lateral workshops, keynotes, technical sessions, technical paper presentations, and technical tours.
The 12th EU-India smart grid workshop took place on 2nd March 2023 at ISUW 2023. The workshop hosted sessions on “Joint EU- India Smart Grid Projects” and “Smart Grid Observatory''. The session on 12th EU - India Smart Grid workshop presented projects under the BRIDGE Program, relevant for the Indian power sector. These selected projects have successfully demonstrated and deployed flexibility solutions such as energy storage systems (ESS), virtual power plants (VPP), smart microgrids, grid integration of electric vehicles and other behind the meter resources at grid scale. The session on the launch of the Smart Grid Observatory was organized with an aim to share data analytics, smart grid project experiences and discuss key elements to upscale energy storage in India, research frameworks, and institutional engagements between EU and India followed by a panel discussion on potential avenues for India under each of these themes.
On 03rd March 2023, EU co-hosted a roundtable on “Interconnection of Regional Grids in Asia- cross border electricity trade across SAARC/BIMSTEC, ASEAN & GCC regions” with sessions on trans-regional energy connectivity between SAARC/BIMSTEC, ASEAN & GCC regions and development of power market for regional and inter-regional power trade. The sessions were focussed on transmission interconnection opportunities that existed in the BIMSTEC/SAARC, ASEAN, GCC region and the opportunities and challenges for interconnecting regional grids, along with the role of regional Institutions/forums in power system integration inside a region and facilitating trans-regional interconnection.
An EU pavilion was also set up in the exhibition area of ISUW 2023 that showcased EU technologies, solutions, and advances in the field of smart grids, with participation from various EU-India joint projects and industry associations.
