We are thrilled to announce the inauguration of India's second Climate Change Learning Lab, nestled in the heart of Kerala at the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM), Kozhikode, on August 18th, 2023. This landmark initiative is a testament to the collaboration between the European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) EUDE
The Kerala Climate Change Learning Lab is the fruit of the successful 'Strategic Partnership for Implementation of the Paris Agreement', a European Union-funded project. With co-funding from BMWK under the 'Indo-German Support Project for Climate Action in India', this innovative initiative is jointly implemented by the EU Delegation to India and GIZ India, in partnership with the Centre for Water Resources Management and Development (CWRDM). The inauguration was graced by Dr. Beena Philip (Hon’ble Mayor of Kozhikode Corporation, Kerala), Shri. PTA Rahim (Hon’ble MLA), Mr. Edwin Koekkoek (First Counsellor, Energy and Climate Action, EU Delegation to India) and Prof. Kalyan Chakraborthy (Director, KSoM, Kozhikode).
The significance of this lab lies in its interactive and experiential approach to disseminating science-based insights on climate change. By fostering active participation and engagement, we are paving the way for comprehensive awareness and knowledge among diverse stakeholders.
The lab's impact is multifaceted:
Empowering Students: Through immersive learning experiences, we are shaping the future climate leaders of Kerala. Students from various educational institutions are joining hands to comprehend climate science, adaptation strategies, and mitigation policies.
Building Capacities: By providing a platform for on-demand knowledge delivery, the lab bridges the gap between theory and action. Government officials, community leaders, NGOs, and people representatives gain the tools they need to contribute effectively to climate resilience.
Focusing on Solutions: The lab offers insights into the most pressing climate challenges and their solutions. From state-specific policies to impactful strategies, the lab equips participants with actionable insights.
Our endeavor doesn't stop here. Similar Climate Change Learning Labs are taking shape across India, with a lab already established in Bihar, and two upcoming labs in Gujarat and Haryana.
The Climate Change lab is a step towards combating climate change, a key focus of the Green objective of the Green and Sustainable Development Partnership between #India and #Germany
